The new (old) logo also signifies a departure from the previous business plan. The green logo wasn’t just about new branding, it was about bringing in outside forces to “make Medium great again.” Giving the green M the boot also is a subtle acknowledgment that The Ringer and its ilk weren’t really in Medium’s playbook. To me, this return to form signifies a return to the solo voice and the importance of individual writers and ideas.

Last week I showed my disapproval of the clap system. It didn’t make sense. But today, after seeing the bigger picture where claps are used to help pay writers, I can safely say that I have changed my mind. Ev Williams and Medium Staff have made a course correction and I appreciate their willingness to go home again.

Sometimes we have to go home to move forward.
